Wine Journal: Barbera d'Asti Superiore DOCG Baroni delle Casate

Wine Journal: Barbera d'Asti Superiore DOCG Baroni delle Casate

Barbera is a typical grape variety of Piedmont. Barbera wines can be still or sparkling, dry or with residual sugar. This tasting note is about our favourite type of Barbera still and dry: Barbera d'Asti Superiore DOCG Baroni delle Casate.

The grapes of Barbera d'Asti Superiore DOCG come from the hills of Castigliole d'Asti, Calosso d'Asti where the soils are marly and calcareous. The grapes are harvested by hand and vinified in steel tanks. Then the wine is aged in oak barrels for few months.
Tasting notes in few words
Color. Deep vivid red.
Aroma. Intensely winy with fruity notes of plum and cherries.
Taste. Soft,full-bodied, slightly tannic, fruity and full.
This wine is really interesting. It has deep color and high acidity but almost no tannin. It is dark in color with fruity flavors but more crisp and refreshing than most red wines. For these reason it is very food friendly and it can accompany a wide range of dishes.
