The Trevi Fountain is known as one of the most stunning fountains in the world. The fountain is situated on on side of Palazzo Poli in the centre of Rome. As it was built on the intersection of three roads, Triviathree streets, it eventually became known as the Trevi Fountain (Fontana di Trevi).

It dates back to ancient roman times: it served as a display of an ancient aqueduct termination. The aqueduct was built in 19 Bc by Agrippa, 21 km long, to supply the thermal baths and fountains in central Rome. The aqueduct was named Virgo after a virgin lady who lead some thirsty and tired Roman soldiers to a source of water to restore.
The fountain as we know it today was commissioned by pope Clement XII. Nicola Salvi was the artist in charge to replace the existing fountain and he based its design on the project studied by Bernini years before. The result is a magnificent fountain that represents the perfect combination of classicism and baroque style. The structure is made to look even more imposing due to the tiny square in which it was built and by the numerous narrow streets that you need to follow in order to reach it.
